"We're all rough drafts of the people we're still becoming."
Bob Goff - Everybody, Always
This year I've made an significant attempt to up my personal development. Probably take that with a grain of salt as I'm a 'small steps' kind of person. I do feel that thus far it's been a significant year of growth & in enneagram terms, more 'awakening' (albeit slowly).
Here's a little list of things of note for me at 35...
Cons. I've wanted white converse shoes for years. This was finally the year. I got a pair & I love them. They make me happy.
Running. Started running in the new year & have made it up to 5k which was my goal. It's slowly become a habit I enjoy, weather depending - (I'm not a hardcore runner yet!)
Smooth white. I've found a go-to bottle of wine. Which is a blend & inexpensive. Copper Moon, smooth white. I'm a pretty routines person so it’s helpful to find something I like & just stick with that.
Audio books! Why has it taken me this many years to realize how awesome audio books are??! (Probably cause they involve technology). But they're awesome. & they've improved my life dramatically. They pair great with running & my latest hobby (below), or any old menial task that needs doing, or just relaxing! If I could recommend one thing at this point in life: audiobooks. They've helped a lot with my goal to 'read' more books this year, as well as actually reading.
New hobby: Paint by Number - aka PBN. I ordered one last year around Christmas & only just recently finished. An enjoyable activity!
Sunday soup. I've tried to be more intentional about a sabbath practice of rest on Sunday - paint by number counts, reading, etc as well as making a pot of soup. Joel typically bakes a loaf of bread & I make a soup for supper that night. Haven't established what we'll do during summer yet, but I've enjoyed this practice & will look forward to soup weather when it comes around again.
Dwell. As per audio books/listens - I got the Bible audio app Dwell this year which I've also really enjoyed. It's been super helpful with making progress through the Bible & is a nice way to start or end the day. I'm currently working through the New Testament. They also have some really nice compilations for different subjects/verses/times of year.
Loved reading this post. You have shocked me with hairspray, but yes, it's a wonderful thing. Lois introduced me to Bedroom.hair by Kevin Murphy which is pure luxury for hair. I do remember you buying a pair of con 'knock offs' awhile ago but obviously did not suffice. good for you for buying the real thing! There are just some things in life that make one happy. Thank you for introducing me to Bob Goff and his incredible stories that inspire, make you laugh and remember for always (well, in my case till next week anyhow). I think of you when I make the shortcut sommaborchst soup. Yum, it's so good. Des has a new oven with a 'Sabbath' setting. You've inspired me to purchase my own PBN for cabin past time. Yes, to Vincent VanGogh.
