Jean-Dominique Bauby

"My cocoon becomes less oppressive, & my mind takes flight like a butterfly. There is so much to do."
the Dutch House / Ann Patchett
Fiction, audio by Tom Hanks

"I made the decision to change. It might seem like change was impossible given my nature & my age, but I understood exactly what I had to lose. The Point wasn't whether or not I liked it, the point was it had to be done."
"That was it. The moment of my spiritual awakening on 120th Street... my whole life suddenly snapped into technicolor clarity."
Sculptor's Daughter / Tove Jansson
memoir
***
"If you sailed a hundred miles over the sea & walked a hundred miles through the forest in all directions, you wouldn't find a little girl at all. They just don't exist. I know because I've found out. You can wait for them for a thousand years & they just don't exist. The nearest thing to it you'll find is Fanny who is almost seventy & collected pebbles & shells & dead animals & sings when it's going to rain. She's never lonely."
// OCTOBER //
the Good Earth / Pearl S Buck
Historical Fiction
****
This one was different than I was expecting, but I enjoyed overall. It was interesting to see all the family dynamics over time. Will continue with the second book, Sons.
No Cure for Being Human / Kate Bowler
Memoir / audio by Kate
****
“Each day was a winnowing, but I felt a surreal completeness. I was becoming less & less, but I was not reduced to nothing.”
A Heart that Works / Rob Delaney
Memoir
***
“I was ready to love this boy forever.”
Wellness / Nathan Hill
Fiction / audio by Ari Fliakos
This one was not for me! I loved the first bit, & did not enjoy the rest although I finished it. It was an Oprah pick so I followed along with her author videos which was interesting. I like the author as a person much more than the book itself.
"our lives are bound by time, but our memories are not."
