getaway / bday
A little trip to Saskatoon at the end of May for Joel & I ~
(thanks Jim & Carolyn for watching the kids)!
"We should, I think, occasionally pause in the river of time."
(Brian Doyle, One Long River of Song)
I celebrated a birthday & Joel did the half marathon. It was lovely to relax, wander & peruse at will, & eat where & when we felt like it. We did a night at the James (a luxurious favourite), & one at the Alt, also nice. Our hotels were within walking distance of where we ate which was great, & at large we were very low key. My highlight was Una's pizza - we shared the prosciutto wrapped dates stuffed with walnuts that came on this rugged little tray drizzled with (balsamic?) & a little pile of coarse salt for dipping & it was the most delicious thing I've eaten since I don't know when. The pizza was also very good. Sparrow was a very nice coffee shop - we tried a lovely citrus & cardamom sweet bun. Did OEB's for breakfast which has a super fun atmosphere tho my dish was a little disappointing.
"Growing older is an odd sensation, disconcerting at times, promising at other. Sometimes I feel grounded. Sometimes I feel lost. Often I feel suspended in mid-air, caught somewhere between old & young. I guess this is the beginning of the middle."

our view & the runners from the James window.
Enjoyed listening to some Anne Lamott on the way back together - Dusk Night Dawn gave us both frequent laughs. She says it well.
A lovely getaway.
